Gary Taxali
Gary Taxali was born in Chandigarh, India in 1968 and immigrated with his family to Toronto, Canada a year later. The encouragement of his parents led Gary to take art classes as a child, which eventually led him to pursue an art education. In 1991, he graduated from the Ontario College of Art and immediately began working as a professional illustrator. Shortly thereafter, he was featured in gallery exhibitions throughout North America including La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2005, he launched his first vinyl toy, The Toy Monkey, a special edition of which was commissioned by The Whitney Museum of American Art and given as a premium to top donors at their annual fundraiser. Aside from his gallery shows and illustration work, Gary also devotes a portion of his time to lecturing and teaching at art-focused organizations and schools, including his alma mater, The Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada. He is a Founding Member of IPA (The Illustrators' Partnership of America).
Earlier this year, Gary Taxali was involved in a highly publicized grievance with internet giant, GOOGLE, which was detailed in this article in the New York Times. La Luz de Jesus is proud to present these pieces from previous shows as a teaser for Gary's solo exhibition in October 2010, which will feature all new work.
