Zachary Friedberg-Saturday Morning Tiki

Exhibition: April 1-26, 2020

La Luz de Jesus Gallery is thrilled to present an online exclusive exhibition by artist Zachary Friedberg.

Zachary Benson Friedberg creates vibrant pop and surreal artwork that explores themes related to popular culture, the unknown, and escapism. His acrylic on canvas paintings are most notable for their attention-grabbing use of highly opaque fluorescent and metallic paints applied with print like precision. Zachary’s artwork can be seen on international touring musicians’ merchandise and in galleries throughout Southern California. His artwork has been commissioned by such notable celebrities as Travie McCoy and David Duchovny.

“Saturday Morning Tiki combines popular cartoon characters of my youth with American Tiki culture in a vibrant graphic pop style.  Like many children of the ’80s and ’90s, I found escape from daily routine, responsibility, and anxiety through popular television cartoons.  I do not watch these shows anymore, however, I still retain a strong emotional connection with these childhood programs because they are intimately associated with relaxation.  Like many adults today, I find an escape from routine and responsibility with a periodic vacation or more frequently, a cocktail.  American Tiki culture embodies the stress-free sensations of leisure that children attain while watching Saturday morning cartoons and adults attain while on vacation.  Saturday Morning Tiki’s goal is to evoke the same emotional response both children and adults gain from these leisure experiences.”
