La Luz De Jesus is pleased to present Strange Attractor, Ana Bagayan’s third solo exhibition with the gallery. This exhibition takes a closer look inside the interdimensional mind of the Artist.

Bagayan’s experimentation with hyper color, monochrome, and scale in her previous exhibitions fuse together and create a safe place to filter her interests in space, science, and the unknown.

The title of the show, Strange Attractor refers to Bagayan’s cycle of mathematical, chaotic systems that never repeat the same pattern. Utilizing this cycle as a constant, Bagayan pays close attention to the contemplative nature of her subjects where she is able to create specific narratives. Alien, human, and hybrid life forms attempt to find the balance between curiosity and fear of the other in ever-changing environments. For example, “Spruce Lee and His Sidekicks” illustrates the iconic martial artist, Bruce Lee as a spruce tree that is instructing a human and two alien creatures in a beautiful forest. The next rendition will likely take place in a different dimension.

The prevailing positive sentiment implies that more scenarios like this will take place, more knowledge will be exchanged, but in a slightly different way. Bagayan’s cycle throughout her work also reveals a constant theme in her work– empathy. No matter what dimension the subjects find themselves habitating, they do not label, categorize, or judge. There is always room for knowledge, kindness, and the desire to protect.

Ana Bagayan was born in Yeravan, Armenia in 1982. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Ana has exhibited through the US, Europe, and Asia with exhibitions at artist Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Gallery (Japan), Gallery FB69 (Germany).
