Born and raised in San Diego by his adopted parents, Bruce Eichelberger was an avid skater and surfer. Struggling with drugs and the law caused him to go in and out of prison, then seeing and experiencing the many facets of inequalities and antagonisms within our society.
As a child he always had a love for art of all sorts. He was always drawn to many mediums; tattooing, drawing, painting, sculpting , silver-smithing, taxidermy, pyro-graphy, woodcarving etc. For many years is wasn’t enough to keep him out of trouble, but the roads he would have to walk down made him create his own style.
“The best way I can explain it is, there are a lot of things that affect me – the scandal in the church, war, abuse in the government these stories are what drives me. I’ll take little truths and embellish them using my Muse (wife). When she’s sweet she’s Bibi but, when she is bad I call her Alma – so there will be a lot of truths but by the time I complete the work – only I would be aware of the truth that would apply to the piece.” – Bruce Eichelberger
His life took a turn and caused him to be closer to all his troubles when he met his biological parents. It turns out that his father Milton Jordan was also an artist sculpture and silversmith.
“The chip on my shoulder may have been when I found out I was adopted. Not knowing who my mother was and how I was given away at birth…Trust in people and relationships were an absolute NO… If my mother didn’t love me why would anyone else…My Dad was cool and glad to have met him, I’m dedicating this show to him”
Bruce has shown in California, Australia , Germany, Paris, and New York.
