La humanidad necesita para vivir mitos y mentiras. Si uno ve la verdad escueta se pega un tiro.
Humanity needs myths and lies to live. If you see the plain truth, you’ll shoot yourself. Fernando Vallejo, La virgen de los sicarios

The portraits of Dos Diablos often unnerve and incite unease. As they are portraits of emotions, some people do not feel good contemplating my paintings – it is because of fear, because they see themselves in the paintings. It can be horrifying to see how you are.
The artist’s distinct palette — pale pinks, throbbing reds, deep violets — are colors of vitality and recall the block or hook of the butcher, the detailed plates of the anatomy book. Muscle and maw, sinew and flesh, the strange anatomies of Dos Diablos’ subjects initially repel the viewer. Yet, in his masterful technique and creation of unique atmospheres, the work of Dos Diablos demands closer inspection and admiration. His portraiture engages the viewer and holds a deft mirror to humanity. Full of old gods and religious iconography, “Eulogy to the Enemy” is a passionate indictment of dogma and spiritual myopia. Dos Diablos begs his viewers of a closer, more critical examination of religion’s structure and the role of man within it.
In this new exhibit, I did an approximation of the symbols discourse ingrained in collective social thought; although having a retrograde and imposing character, have been reinterpreted through the ages, societies have transformed them into moral and spiritual supports, turning these mythologies into a great source of creation, of courage, in a present ally that is not there, but is with us. In some pieces I portray you, and in others I portray myself. This is my interpretation of those symbols, This is my tribute to the sanctimonious, the inquisitor, the enemy of truth; the igniter of bonfires, the burner of heretics and witches… this is my eulogy to the enemy.” -Dos Diablos
As the 17th-century motto of the Royal Society invites Nullius in verba, the work of Dos Diablos similarly directs us to a life of empiricism, to see for oneself.
