CASSETTE TAPES FOR YOUR BOOMBOX

December 4, 2015 – January 3, 2016
Artist reception: Friday, December 4th; 8-11PM

As part of our BOOMBOX CREATORS SHOW, we’re offering over 200 different, original, factory sealed cassette tapes. All for only $25 each!

Cassette Tapes were the first DIY format for making music. Before the Cassette Tape, artists were required to book expensive studio sessions and generally required the support of a major label to produce vinyl record albums, which were sent out to radio stations in hopes of on-air play to build a fan-base that might actually buy those records.

The Cassette Tape could be used to tape live shows, rehearsals, and even as an instrument to be used alongside the band. Cassettes were generally inexpensive to buy, reproduce and send through the mail, and tape traders all over the world got in touch through ads in the backs of the their favorite magazines. The Cassette Tape made possible the rise of Hip Hop and Heavy Metal, and also helped ascend the star of DJ’s who could record their live mixes.

The Boombox Creators Show is a tribute to the Boombox. Since no Boombox is complete without cassettes to play in them, this exhibition features over 200 different original issue cassettes, still in their original, factory shrinkwrap. Some of these releases were cassette-only releases that were not issued on any other format, and quite a few of them are exceptionally rare. All are only $25 each.

There are also two cassettes made specifically for this exhibition:
The Boombox Creators East Coast & West Coast Mix Tapes
Both are each limited to only 100 copies each, and only $25.

Here are some images of the tapes we’ve got available. A complete list is below.
Call the gallery director ASAP, because these are in extremely limited quantities.
