Painting You a Story is Los Angeles artist FADNAT’s way of producing something akin to an adult storybook filled with sardonic, absurdist tales featuring uncanny characters, anomalous creatures, and every imaginable odd and end. For FADNAT, the story comes last: he begins by creating abstract shapes, then slowly defines them by teasing out the creatures and characters that populate his images. Starting thus with chaos and ending with cohesive stories, FADNAT finds delight in the absurdism of reality and looks to push it even further beyond comprehension while also trying to make you laugh.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, FADNAT has spent many years winning the lifelong daily battle for sobriety. Understanding the itch to turn towards inebriation as a subconscious desire to throw oneself into chaos, FADNAT chooses instead to control that chaos by creating a contained, absurdist unreality that helps him and those around him cope with the madness of the universe. His art is not an escape from, but an acceptance of, our lack of control. FADNAT recognizes that his art is for those who are open-minded to absurdist philosophy.
